2019 OQHA Annual Picnic
The Ohio Quarter Horse Association (OQHA) held its annual picnic Monday, June 17th. Some 150 people were in attendance for some home made pork and bratwursts prepared by the OQHA staff as well as many delightful side dishes brought by fellow members. The Ohio Quarter Horse Youth Association (OQHYA), Ohio Amateur Horse Association (OAQHA) and OQHA board members gathered for a picnic style meal and yard games at 5:30 p.m. followed by the individual monthy board meetings at 7 p.m. Thank you to Kyle Flatter and Matt Claypool for manning the grill throughout the hot night! Zips Bossy Chip
An 11-year-old American Quarter Horse mare has earned the most points in American Quarter Horse Association history. Zips Bossy Chip has earned 6,039.5 points in AQHA youth and open competition combined through May 2019. She continues to accrue points with her owner, 18-year-old Ellexxah Maxwell of West Mansfield, Ohio. The record previously had been held by Harley D Zip, a 1995 bay gelding with 5,906.5 points in open, amateur, Select amateur and youth competition. Harley D Zip, owned by Highview Ranch Quarter Horses Inc. of Rapid City, South Dakota, is now retired from competition. NOQHA Spring Extravaganza - Sold Out Success
The Spring Extravaganza 4 judged show was up 860 entries from last year! The Level 1 Extravaganza Show on Monday was also up 75 entries. NOQHA sold out of stalls in February. The exhibitors enjoyed an Ice Cream Social on Sunday. Buckeye Feed provided bagels on Monday for the exhibitors. Coffee and donuts were available all mornings in the office. Chris Darnell and her staff at Simply Show Services managed the successful show. Results are available on their website at noqha.com. SOQHA The Madness is a wrap
Excitement filled the air the second week of May as exhibitors, trainers, family, and spectators gathered at the World Equestrian Center in Wilmington, Ohio. The Madness, presented by Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association, was in full swing and saw an increase of 500 entries this year. This brought their total AQHA entries to over 12,500 for the 2019 show. The sold out event consisted of two parts: the Pre-Madness, held May 10-12, and the Madness, held May 14-19. The popular show featured 10 judges and over 100 classes, including large-purse slot classes, pleasure driving, trail, showmanship, and pleasure and equitation classes. Go-To Place for AQHA Level 1 East Championships
From The American Quarter Horse Association Exhibitors at the Nutrena East AQHA Level 1 Championships saddled up their American Quarter Horses on May 1 for the opening day of competition at the World Equestrian Center in Wilmington, Ohio. The show kicked off at 8 a.m. with Rookie youth ranch riding in the R+L Arena West and Rookie amateur ranch riding in the R+L Arena East. The Nutrena East Level 1, running May 1-5, features walk-trot, Rookie and Level 1 classes. These three levels of AQHA competition are designed for everyone from the beginner to the minimally accomplished competitors in AQHA events, respectively. Take a moment to read this... In an effort to accommodate stall preferences in the most fair and affordable way possible, we are offering priority stalling as an option at this year's show. With priority stalling, we will assign stalls next to the arena first, then barn A (North), then barn B (South). If your reservation includes 10 stalls or less the cost is $300, and for more than 10 stalls the cost is $500 (in addition to stall reservation). EOQHA hosts a successful show
Eastern Ohio Quarter Horse Association would like to thank all the trainers, exhibitors, judges, ring stewards, staff and EOQHA board for making their April 6-7 show successful. With nearly 4800 total entries we saw 175 trail runs, an 8 point amateur showmanship class and many classes split.
