LARRY HANNUM PASSES

The Ohio Quarter Horse Association is saddened to announce the passing of Larry Keith Hannum. Hannum, Kent, Ohio owned Larry's Stables, transforming his family's farm into a long-standing equine facility. He was also a beloved schoolteacher.  --- Larry's Obituary from Hine Funeral Home: On April 29th, Larry Keith Hannum passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at his home in Kent, which was on the family farm where he was born and lived his entire life.  Larry was born on June 3rd, 1943 to the late Catherine Rhodes and Lyman Fay Hannum.  He grew up in Kent and graduated from the University School High School as well as Kent State University.  He was a third generation entrepreneur, utilizing the family farm, which

The Challenge kicked off the 2022 Ohio show season

The Challenge, put on by the SOQHA Youth kicked off the 2022 Ohio show season.  With the addition of a L1 Youth WT division, $11,000 was given away to youth competing in the Scholarship Challenge.  There were fun classes and free photos by Ryan Geiger Photography. Show high points can be found on SOQHA.com/shows .  Exhibitors new to AQHA were welcomed with a gift.  We hope to see them at more shows this year. Remembering Maggie Howell

The Ohio Quarter Horse Association is saddened to announce the passing of Maggie Howell after her longterm battle with brain cancer. Howell of Baltimore, Ohio was an up and coming horse trainer who graduated from the University of Findlay as an Equestrian major in 2012. She was a long time assistant to Ohio Quarter Horse Associations Director, Missy Thyfault. The 2021 Ohio Quarter Horse Awards Banquet held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the Hilton Downtown Columbus was our biggest banquet yet!  The banquet room was packed with more than 480 in attendance and over $87,000 in awards presented to the 2021 OQHA award winners. OQHA Director, Justin Billings, and the 2021 Congress Queen, Darcy Woods, gave a warm welcome to all of the guests and led the everyone in an invocation before dinner. CEO, Dr. Scott Myers, welcomed everyone to the Annual Banquet and then took a moment to pay tribute to Past President and National Director, Clark Bradley. Clark Bradley OQHA Past President and National Director Passes

The Ohio Quarter Horse Association is saddened to announce the passing of Clark Bradley. Bradley of Findlay, Ohio came from a family dedicated to the Ohio Quarter Horse Association. Clark Bradley was an instructor at the University of Findlay for 26 years. He became an active coach with the University of Findlay’s western equestrian team in 1996. He has helped coached several national championship teams and two reserve national championship squads. Clark has also held prestigious positions such as President of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association, President of the National Reining Horse Association, and National Director for the American Quarter Horse Association. It is with heavy hearts that the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) shares the passing of longtime State Veterinarian Dr. Tony Forshey. Dr. Forshey was a leader in animal health; both well known, and well respected. Dr. Forshey had a passion and commitment to agriculture and animal health. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University and practiced veterinary medicine for 27 years, with a major interest in swine production. He served as the State Veterinarian and Chief of Animal Health at ODA for 15 years.
