OQHA HONORARY DIRECTOR WAYNE ERWIN PASSES

It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of OQHA Honorary Director Wayne Erwin. Our thoughts and prayers are with his entire family during this challenging time. Wayne's legacy is marked by his positive impact on our organization and his unwavering love for his family. Wayne was a mainstay at the Congress and enjoyed sharing countless stories. 

Wayne M. Erwin, 86, of Bucyrus passed away on Saturday January 20, 2024 at Altercare of Bucyrus.  Wayne was born October 19, 1937 in Bucyrus to the late Dallas and Margaret (Painter) Erwin.  He was married January 17, 1997 to Lisa (Will) Erwin who survives.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nephew Brett Erwin.

Wayne is also survived by children Riley (Arthur) Yuhas, Clint Erwin, and Lindsay (Brandon) Spalding all of Bucyrus; 3 grandchildren Corbin, Reagan, and Teagan; brother Gary (Trudy) Erwin of Bucyrus and niece Tani Erwin of Bucyrus.

Wayne graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1955 and was drafted into the U.S. Army.  He retired as a lineman for AEP after working over 40 years.  Wayne served as a judge for the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), and a director and judge for the Ohio Quarter Horse Association (OQHA), as well as multiple other associations.  He was very dedicated to the American Quarter Horse.

Wayne was a member of the Bucyrus Masonic Lodge and 50 years member of the Shrine Club.  He enjoyed scuba diving, wood carving, reading and spending time at the library, and crafting wine.
