Remembering Maggie Howell
The Ohio Quarter Horse Association is saddened to announce the passing of Maggie Howell after her longterm battle with brain cancer. Howell of Baltimore, Ohio was an up and coming horse trainer who graduated from the University of Findlay as an Equestrian major in 2012. She was a long time assistant to Ohio Quarter Horse Associations Director, Missy Thyfault. 2021 Awards Banquet
The 2021 Ohio Quarter Horse Awards Banquet held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the Hilton Downtown Columbus was our biggest banquet yet! The banquet room was packed with more than 480 in attendance and over $87,000 in awards presented to the 2021 OQHA award winners. OQHA Director, Justin Billings, and the 2021 Congress Queen, Darcy Woods, gave a warm welcome to all of the guests and led the everyone in an invocation before dinner. Clark Bradley OQHA Past President and National Director Passes
The Ohio Quarter Horse Association is saddened to announce the passing of Clark Bradley. Bradley of Findlay, Ohio came from a family dedicated to the Ohio Quarter Horse Association. Clark Bradley was an instructor at the University of Findlay for 26 years. He became an active coach with the University of Findlay’s western equestrian team in 1996. He has helped coached several national championship teams and two reserve national championship squads. Clark has also held prestigious positions such as President of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association, President of the National Reining Horse Association, and National Director for the American Quarter Horse Association. Statement from Director Dorothy Pelanda on the Passing of State Veterinarian Dr. Tony Forshey
It is with heavy hearts that the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) shares the passing of longtime State Veterinarian Dr. Tony Forshey. Dr. Forshey was a leader in animal health; both well known, and well respected. Dr. Forshey had a passion and commitment to agriculture and animal health. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University and practiced veterinary medicine for 27 years, with a major interest in swine production. He served as the State Veterinarian and Chief of Animal Health at ODA for 15 years. Burgess J. Holt OQHA PAST PRESIDENT, National Director, and Chairman PASSES
The Ohio Quarter Horse Association is saddened to announce the passing of Burgess J. Holt. Burgess was a President of OQHA, President of Ohio Amateur Quarter Horse Association, OQHA National Director, and Chairman of the OQHA Congress. He was also a long time Congress supporter and friend. Burgess will be dearly missed. Prayers to his family, especially his wife Jan. Burgess would like to let you know his work here is done. He has been called to a greater project where his compensation will be reuniting with loved family and friends, but most importantly an eternity with his Savior. Executive Director Dr. Scott Myers Inducted into the All American Quarter Horse Congress Hall of Fame
Scott Myers is the son of Ronnie and Sally Myers of North Hampton Ohio. Scott attended Woodridge High School and graduated in 1977. He attended Kentucky Westland University and graduated with an undergraduate degree in Biology. He then attended The Ohio State University and perused a doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1985 as Dr. Scott Myers, DVM. He went to work at the Sharron Center Veterinarian hospital and practiced with Dr. Dave McDonald and Dr. Connie Barns until 1989 when he then opened his own practice called Hunting Rid ge Animal H ospital. Dr. Myers married Dr. Leslie Cook in 1993 and had two daughters, Taylor who was born

2021 SOQHA The Madness is a Wrap
The Madness, presented by SOQHA, lived up to its name in more than one way! More than 17,700 AQHA entries, more than 2900 NSBA Dual/Approved entries, more than 240 NSBA entries in the money classes and add in the Small Fry & other non-approved classes, made for an amazing run of shows. Sure, it could have been warmer to start, but the competition was HOT. The youth that showed will be in the finals of the Youth World in August. The Amateur and Select classes were some of the deepest seen in some time. SOQHA truly had horses and exhibitors from California to Maine. SOQHA hopes to see Canadian exhibitors back sooner than later. SOQHA thanks each and every person that showed, watched, attended, and hooted for the great
