New OQHA Mountain Trail Classes
The Ohio Quarter Horse Association (OQHA) has allocated funding towards prizes and recognition for High Point awards in 12 new classes of the International Mountain Trail Challenge Association events held at Creek Side Horse Park in Waynesburg, Ohio in 2018.
OQHA will be opening these awards to ANY BREED of horse that earns the most IMTCA/OQHA points and finishes in the top three for each class. The classes will include youth and adult riders who compete ‘In Hand’ and ‘In the Saddle’. The rider must be a member of OQHA at the time of showing to accumulate points but does not have to own or ride a registered Quarter Horse. Awards will be given at the Annual OQHA Awards Banquet in February 2019.
“OQHA is pleased to continue supporting new classes and new opportunities for equine enthusiasts, participants and industry leaders of all ages,” said OQHA CEO Dr. Scott Myers. “The association looks forward to seeing its members compete in new and different events to develop their skills as a rider.”
OQHA has also invited IMTCA to the All American Quarter Horse Congress in October with an 11 a.m. Lecture and a 1 p.m. Demonstration on Saturday, October 27.
Mountain Trail includes boulders, trees, walls, water and bridges (some that move). These courses and obstacles do require proper engineering and inspection for IMTCA Certification, which is key for both horse and rider safety.
