Exciting Kick-Off to the OQHA Summer Season
The members of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association (OQHA) have wasted no time in making the most of the summer of 2023! With a multitude of shows organized by OQHA affiliates, the association has already hosted several successful events, setting the tone for an action-packed season.
One highlight was the annual picnic, held at the picturesque IronGate Equestrian Center in Hartford, Ohio, on Monday, June 19. The event drew an impressive turnout of over 100 guests who enjoyed a tasty spread of hamburgers, hot dogs, and bratwursts prepared by the IronGate team. OQHA members contributed to the feast with a wide variety of delicious side dishes and desserts.
While the picnic was in full swing, the Ohio Quarter Horse Youth Association (OQHYA) held their monthly meeting. The enthusiastic young members engaged in discussions about the upcoming AQHYA World Show and YES Conference, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared goals. During the meeting, they also conducted a drawing for their inaugural fundraising event of the year, a 50/50 reverse raffle. Congratulations to Jill Kelch, the lucky winner of the $5,000 cash prize! Additionally, the youth collected donation items to support the Re-Ride Quarter Horse Adoption Program, showcasing their generosity and commitment to giving back.
At the open board meeting, Cynthia Bauman took the opportunity to present a donation on behalf of Creekside Horse Park. A check amounting to $2,000 was handed over to OQHA President George Seanor, representing the proceeds from the highly successful annual trail ride and the Premier Mount N Trail Challenge. The OQHA Foundation also received a significant boost, thanks to a generous $35,000 donation presented by Judd Paul. These funds were raised through an auction held at The Madness in honor of Kathleen Lennon, reflecting the industry's commitment to supporting her legacy through educational opportunities.
Looking ahead, the OQHA and OQHYA board meetings have been scheduled for August 21, 2023, at the OQHA office in Columbus. These meetings will serve as a platform for further collaboration.
The OQHA summer season is off to a fantastic start, promising even more memorable moments for all involved.
