2019 AQHA Convention Wrap Up

The American Quarter Horse Association held its annual convention to review member-submitted rule changes, appoint new AQHA directors, induct members into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and elect the AQHA Executive Committee March 8-11 at the Omni Hotel in Fort Worth, Texas.

The five-person Executive Committee is responsible for implementing important decisions made by AQHA members through the board of directors.

The 2019-20 AQHA Executive Committee is President Stan Weaver of Big Sandy, Montana; First Vice President F.E. Butch Wise of El Reno, Oklahoma; Second Vice President Norman Luba of Louisville, Kentucky; member Dr. Scott Myers of Sharon Center, Ohio; and member Kenneth Banks of Schulenburg, Texas.

The 2019 American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame inducted 11 legends at convention: the 1951 stallion Harlan; the 1992 stallion Mr Jess Perry; the 1958 stallion Tiger Leo; the 1976 (TB) mare Trippy Dip; the 2000 mare Vital Signs Are Good; the stallion Zippos Mr Good Bar; Billy Allen of Kansas; AQHA Past President Johne Dobbs; the late J.M. Frost III of Texas; the late Hans Hansma of Alberta, Canada and Jim Jennings. Learn more about the class of 2019 on aqha.com.

Professionals of the Year were named on March 9.
• 2018 Don Burt Professional Horseman of the Year Gil Galyean of Purcell, Oklahoma
• 2018 AQHA Professional Horsewoman of the Year Chele McGauly of Elm Grove, Louisiana
• 2018 Most Valuable Professional Steve Meadows of Staunton, Virginia

Modifications to AQHA Bylaws, as well as registration-related items, were reviewed by AQHA members and the AQHA Board of Directors at the convention. Per the Association’s bylaws, the board of directors has the final authority when it comes to changes or additions to AQHA’s bylaws and rules of registration. We’ll bring you more later on the rule changes recommended by these two committees and approved by the board of directors.
