A familiar face to horse show exhibitors at the Quarter Horse Congress as well as long-time members of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association has died. Lee Sobas, of Marysville, Ohio, died April 1, 2013. She was 75.

OQHA released it's 2013 Show Schedule today. So far, the schedule includes nine shows approved for OQHA points, with three still pending approval, for a total of more than 30 judges.

OQHA members were very successful during the FedEx Open World Championship this year, bringing five gold and five silver trophies back to Ohio, as well as numerous top 15 placings.

The 7th annual National Snaffle Bit Association World Championship Show, held August 15-19 in Tulsa, Oklahoma features all-breed classes and is expected to pay in excess of $450,000 in cash and prizes.

Applications for the Ohio Futurity Bonus Incentive Fund are due August 15th! The OFBIF adds money to specific classes held at the Eastern Ohio Quarter Horse Association, Northern Ohio Quarter Horse Association and Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association annual futurities.

The Ohio Quarter Horse Association has named Scott Myers of Sharon Center, Ohio as its new Executive Director after conducting a five-month nationwide search which reviewed 14 highly qualified candidates.

The 2012 Region Four Championships were held July 13-15 at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus. Despite a train that derailed near the facility early on Wednesday, July 11th, the show went off without a hitch. Competitors from Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Ontario, Canada travelled to Columbus for the chance to win prizes donated by AQHA’s Corporate Sponsors and to qualify for the 2013 AQHA Novice Championships.

The Voice of Congress, Keith Bradley, Passes

Aside from Quarter Horse Congress, Bradley was a staple at the Wood County Fair, serving as the announcer for most events since 1958, including livestock, quilt, pie, baked goods and chain saw auctions. For 19 years, he has won the honor of “Wood County’s Favorite Auctioneer.”

A mile-wide area that included part of the Ohio Expo Center where the show is held, has been evacuated, however The American Red Cross has established a shelter at the Rhodes Center, located on the Ohio Expo Center grounds, for those impacted.

Alma Flarida, mother of OQHA Director Bill Flarida, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, May 3rd. Born April 23, 1913, in Delphos, Ohio. Alma enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling with her family and spending time with all the grandchildren. Alma also regularly attended the All American Quarter Horse Congress in October.

The Ohio Quarter Horse Association is deeply sorry to relay the news that The Priest Family of Van Wert, Ohio lost their house, all belongings contained within and a truck to a tragic fire on Wednesday, March 29th.
